SUMMARY:The Native Plant Center Annual Native Plant Sale
DESCRIPTION:Arrive early: The In-Person sale opens to the public at 10 a.m.\, but Native Plant Center members can enter at 9 a.m. Yoou are encouraged you to bring your own shopping wagon\, as there are a limited number. \nKnow the layout: The 100+ plant species are organized alphabetically within categories: perennials\, grasses/ferns\, vines/shrubs/trees. Perennials ring the inside of the fence beginning to the right of the entrance and are followed by grasses and ferns. Woody plants are grouped in a floating “L” just beyond the entrance. Special plants—those few in quantity or of a delicate nature—are located at a circle of tables within the center of the sale area. New plants are moved to this table throughout the day as species are bought up and numbers dwindle\, so check regularly. \nFind help: Descriptions and photos of the plants are posted on signs in front of each species. You can also get personalized information from the knowledgeable “Ask Me” staff and volunteers. If your shopping cart overflows\, place your plants in the Holding Area so that you can continue making choices unencumbered.

SUMMARY:Annual Green Screen Movie & Discussion: Abundance\, The Farmlink Story
DESCRIPTION:In the spring of 2020\, during the largest food crisis in a century\, a group of college students observed the simultaneous waste and need for food.  Footage of miles long lines of cars hoping to receive food only to come away empty handed inspired them.  So despite feeling powerless these students came up with an idea to solve both problems and became the catalysts for a national movement to reduce food insecurity in the United States. \nJoin us for the screening of the movie which tracks the creation of their ambitious project.  Following with movie participate in a conversation with Max Goldman and Aidan Reilly\,  founders of ABUNDANCE. \n6:00pm Zero Waste Reception\, Student Project Displays \n6:30pm Film Screening \n7:15pm Conversation with Farmlink Co-founders Aidan Reilly and Max Goldman

Please remove all large binder clips and covers. Papers from businesses\, institutions or commercial enterprises are not acceptable and will be rejected\, as will any junk mail or newspapers. \nFirst come\, first served \nService at the events works on a first-come-first-served basis\, as the Mobile Shredder unit can reach its maximum capacity before closing time. In extreme weather\, events may be cancelled or terminated early. \nImportant information \nIt is important to be aware of what you place the paper to be shredded\, no matches\, lighters or anything combustible. Staff at the events will be checking the material prior to being shredded. \nPlease call the county’s Recycling Helpline at (914) 813-5425 to check on a cancellation or early closure. \nKinds of documents to shred \nRemember\, it’s best to shred documents you’re no longer using\, that contain personal identifying information such as name\, address\, phone number\, credit card number or social security number. Such documents should be shredded before they are thrown out for recycling. Some examples are: \n\nexpired credit card statements and receipts\nold tax returns or any other personal documents containing you name\, address or other identifying information.\npre-approved credit card applications\nlicenses\n\nAs this service is gaining in popularity\, residents should be prepared to wait as lines are sometimes long. However\, the wait doesn’t have to be that long. Come prepared. This means you’ve removed all metal clips\, fasteners\, binders\, folders and hard covers and placed the papers loosely in a box. Hard covers – cardboard or plastic covers on items such as ledger books\, marble composition books and hard-cover books – cannot be shredded and will be turned away. Residents must rip pages out from hard cover books for shredding and throw the covers in their regular household trash. Up to four boxes of papers are allowed for shredding. \nFor more information about identity theft\, call the Dept. of Consumer Protection (914) 995-2155. For questions about recycling\, call (914) 813-5425\, the Recycling Helpline. \nLocation Rye Recreation Tennis Court Parking Lot – 281 Midland Avenue\, Rye\, NY\nContact Recycling Helpline: (914) 813-5425\nExtra Info The Mobile Shredder is sponsored by the Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities.
