SUMMARY:The Science of Motivating Young People -- Talk and Q&A with David Yeager\, Ph.D.
DESCRIPTION:Rye Youth Council presents the world-renowned developmental psychologist David Yeager\, Ph.D.\, for an informative discussion and engaging Q&A session about the ideas and findings presented in his newly released book\, 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People. This is a must for parents\, educators\, managers\, and any adult who wants to effectively engage with youth ages 10 to 25. \nDr. Yeager is best known for his research conducted with Carol Dweck\, Angela Duckworth\, and Greg Walton on short but powerful interventions that influence adolescent behaviors such as motivation\, engagement\, healthy eating\, bullying\, stress\, mental health\, and more. \nDiscover how to adopt what Yeager terms the mentor mindset\, which is a leadership style that’s attuned to young people’s need for status and respect. Designed to help parents\, educators\, coaches and managers struggling to help young people reach their potential\, Dr Yeager’s groundbreaking book shares landmark strategies and practical advice to help anyone tap into the basic neurological systems that drive young people’s motivation and behavior\, reduce a wide array of behavioral problems such as school dropout\, unhealthy eating\, stress\, purposeless\, mental health problems\, and help them to feel empowered\, inspired\, enthusiastic and ready to contribute. \nAbout Dr. Yeager’s new book:\n“Required reading for anyone who aspires to be a wise influence on the young people they care about.” —Angela Duckworth \n“One of the most fascinating and important books of the past decade…It will change millions of lives.” —Carol Dweck \n“This engaging\, data-driven book is filled with practical insights.” —Adam Grant \nDoors open at 7:00 for book signing\, bites and beverages\, and the discussion and Q&A begins at 7:30 pm. Limited tickets are available.
