SUMMARY:Yes She Can: Art Exhibition and Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Yes She Can will present its second annual Art Exhibition and Benefit featuring the works of people on the Autism Spectrum or with other learning differences. The event will take place at the Westchester Children’s Museum on Tuesday\, October 29 at 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Proceeds will support the charitable work of Yes She Can. \nGuests will be treated to live entertainment\, light fare\, drinks\, and dessert. State Senator Shelly Mayer and New York State Assemblymember Chris Burdick will be in attendance to share their support. \nWith this event\, Yes She Can is joining a broad effort to observe National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)\, and invites you to join the movement. Celebrate and support the abilities of neurodivergent artists including Lorena Paras\, Evan Lieberman\, Kevin Kujawa\, David Stahl\, and more. Each brings their unique style and talent to the exhibition. Selected artworks will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds will support the charitable work of Yes She Can. \n“People with disabilities are often excluded from the workforce because of perceived limitations. Art is a perfect vehicle to showcase the value of the unique perspectives and strengths that many people with disabilities can offer\,” shared Robin Davies-Small Executive Director of Yes She Can. \nAbout Yes She Can\nYes She Can is a 501(c)3 founded in 2013 by the mother of a young woman with autism\, to ensure that her daughter and others could secure and maintain meaningful work and live more independent lives. The unemployment rate for adults with autism is estimated to be 80-90%. The organization’s mission is to help all individuals with all abilities\, including people with autism and other learning differences\, to develop transferable job skills to enable them to join and be successful in the competitive workforce. Yes She Can operates Girl AGain\, a resale boutique for American Girl dolls. They provide trainees with an authentic work experience and personalized coaching that will lead to success at work. They also seek to enlighten the community\, businesses\, and employees to be more respectful\, accommodating\, and inclusive of people with learning differences in the workforce. \nAbout National Disability Employment Awareness Month\nThe history of NDEAM traces back to 1945\, when it started as a week and focused only on people with physical disabilities. Later\, it expanded to a full month\, and its name and scope evolved to acknowledge the importance of increasing the workforce inclusion of people with all nature of disabilities. “Our communities and economy are strengthened by the inclusion of all people\, including people with disabilities\,” said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Disability Employment Policy Taryn M. Williams. “Their contributions have historically been vital to our nation’s success and are more important today than ever. We must build an accessible\, equitable economy that fully includes the talent and drive of those with disabilities.”
