Budget, Shopping but No Free Speech—Items on (and off) the Agenda for City Council Wednesday – November 5, 2008

The City Council's agenda is out for tonight, Wednesday, November 5, 2008. See you at 8pm in the Council Room at Rye City Hall or on Cablevision Channel 75 and Verizon Channel 39.

Let's check the batting order and highlights from the 18 agenda items.

Missing from the agenda is discussion of the challenge from the New York Civil Liberties Union that part of the Rye city code violates the first amendment. Corporation Counsel Kevin Plunkett had given NYCLU assurances the law in question would be addressed by city council after the election. And Mayor Otis told MyRye.com on October 27th that the city never intended to impede free speech.

  • Budget. Presentation of the FY 2009 budget by the city manager. The plan is to set a public hearing on 2009 Budget for December 3, 2008.
  • Stop and Shop. Request of Rye Merchants Association to close a portion of Purchase Street on November 23, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the City Council will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
