Happy Days Are Here Again – Rye Grill and Bar Reopens Today, January 26th

MyRye.com's restaurant columnist Diana Tapper tells us what we have been waiting 19 months  to hear…

Rye Grill and Bar outside IMG_6330Rye regains a central gathering spot as the Rye Grill and Bar opens its doors again on today at 11:30am after a 19 month renovation. According to one of its managers, the new restaurant is "huge, but homey" — now nearly triple its previous size, with 300 seats, including the new private party room (already booked for a few rehearsal dinners). Themes throughout vary from nautical to golf themes, with fireplaces both in the bar and upstairs.

As much as things have changed, there is a strong emphasis on keeping much of the feel of Rye Grill and Bar the same. The old chef has returned, and many of the wait and bar staff are back as well. The menu hasn't changed materially due to strong customer sentiment. Favorites like cowboy steak, pastas and, of course, burgers are still prominently featured, with some new additions like sliders that are sure to be a big hit. There's also an array of mussels, clams and cockles available with three different types of sauces.

Appetizers are mostly in the $10 – $13 range, salads, sandwiches, pizzas and the aforementioned sliders from $7 – $19, and entrees from $19 – $34.

Rye Grill and Bar will serve lunch and dinner Monday – Saturday and dinner on Sunday. A Sunday brunch is on the horizon. They'll play with the hours for a bit based on demand, so call before you come if you are expecting to be on the early/late side. They also have a full to-go menu. And the bar will certainly be open (much) later than the kitchen.

Note that they are closed Super Bowl Sunday, so you'll have to get your wings elsewhere.

Reservations are accepted for all size parties. They are located near the Rye Train Station at 1 Station Plaza (967-0332).

Diana Tapper has been trying out Rye area restaurants since her move in early 2006 and has coordinated the Dining Around Town group for the Rye Newcomers and Neighbors Club for two years.
