Martin Luther King Day – Day of Service at Rye Nature Center

Rye Nature Center will host a “Youth Volunteer Work Day” on Monday January 19, 2009, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Middle school and high school students who have the day off from school due to Martin Luther King Day are invited to join the nation-wide Day of Service to help a community non-profit organization.

Mid-winter upkeep activities will include splitting and stacking firewood for the sugar shack, painting walls, helping with the new wetland board walk or perimeter trail and cleaning more space for the new Nature Playground.

Adult are also invited to volunteer to be team captains for particular tasks. Youth volunteers will earn Service Learning credits.  Pizza will be provided at Noon.  The event will be held rain or shine.  There is no charge for this program. Pre-registration is not required.  Contact Russ Johnson, Executive Director, Rye Nature Center, 873 Boston Post Road, info@ryenaturecenter.org, 967-5150.
