- Stop Signs on Purchase? The city is considering replacing traffic lights with stop signs along Purchase Street. Presentation by City Planner, Christian Miller, on the Locust/Purchase Traffic Signal Project and Test of Alternative Traffic Control for Purchase Street in August.
- Capital Projects. Presentation by Lisa Easton of Easton Architects on the Rye Meeting House and Rye Town Park Capital projects.
- Cash Flow. Discussion on Deferred Capital Projects and cash flow options.

I thought new or temporary “STOP SIGNS” cause accidents?
I wonder if I should attend this meeting tonight…hmmmmmm!
Good luck getting out of the side streets! Drivers are quite aggressive now and many do not honor pedestrian rights-of-way. How about regular lights during busy daytime hours and blinking reds at night?
Hope to see you there, Jimmy. This would seem to be an appropriate meeting for assessing what’s been done, what needs still to be done, etc; e.g., stop signs, cross walk painting, sidewalk repair, enforcement statistic reporting, etc. Long list.

If this doesn’t contradict what has been said to me the last 4+ years I don’t know what does!!!!
Folks in Rye do not stop at most stop signs now. Stop signs on Purchase would be a disaster. Why would they make this decision?
Put the blinking lights on after 6pm, but please don’t add stop signs.
I think the argument that because a law is not obeyed, the city should not attempt to apply it more broadly is broken in two ways. First, the assumption that the law (stop signs) are widely not obeyed is questionable. Second, the assumption that nothing can / should be done to enforce the law.
As explained at the Worskshop, the relacement traffic lights are going to be almost impossible to install AND will take up a significant chunk of pedestrian sidewalk. Do we really want to see Purchase street narrowed to allow for new traffic lights?

This is the ONLY way to change BAD HABITS!
With the Police Force dwindling down how on earth do we pull this off?
We don’t need a full time wild animal warden, we need more COPS!
You can extend the corner “no parking” zones all you want, that is not going to change bad habits, giving someone a ticket will make them think twice next time!
Disobey a stop sign, you get a ticket, speeding, you get a ticket, illegally parked, you get a ticket, etc.etc.etc!!
