Rye PBA Paints Otis Blue

The Rye Police Benevolent Association has endorsed former Rye Mayor Steve Otis in his run for New York State Assembly. Otis is running for the seat vacated by George Latimer. Latimer is running for New York State Senate for the seat vacated by the retiring Suzy Oppenheimer. And – if you are still following this game of musical chairs – Otis serves as chief of staff for Oppenheimer.

Here is the Rye PBA endorsement letter:

Steve Otis endorsement for NYS Assembly

It is with great pleasure and honor that the Rye Police Benevolent Association throw our full
political support behind, Steve Otis, for New York State Assembly.

Steve Otis, a life long resident of Rye has been chief of staff to Sen. Oppenheimer, DMamaroneck
since 1985. Otis also served as city of Rye mayor from 1998 through 2009 and currently
sits on the executive committee of the Westchester County Municipal Officials Association.

As employees of the city of Rye, the members of the Rye PBA have had the privilege of working
with Steve Otis in his capacity as mayor and in that experience he earned great respect and admiration
from us. We were greatly impressed by his professionalism and he shown great concern for our
members needs and that of the community as a whole. His Selfishness to the Rye community that he
has served for over 10 years is highly commendable and inspiring. Steve’s dedication and hard work will
promote a healthy and positive environment in the NYS Assembly.

Sincerely,
Franco Compagnone
President: Rye Police Benevolent Association

  1. Great, We have our Pba Prez, born & raised in Mt. Vermon & now breaks bread in Jonkers calling a born & raised in Harrison Steve Otis a “life long” Rye Resident!!!

Nothing like being endorsed by someone who doesn’t get the facts straight….the blind leading the deaf & dumb!!!

  2. Is that as dumb as a life long resident of Rye and Past PBA president Tim Chicken$hit stealing over $100 k from the Walter Worthington scholarship fund? And was expelled from the PBA? I am sure his friends and family is very proud of him….Cuzzzzzzzzzz.

  3. RYE PBA CHARGING COP CHITTENDEN TOOK $179K

The Rye PBA is charging former Rye cop Tim Chittenden took $179,000 from its bank account while serving as its treasurer. Chittenden has been a vocal critic of Rye City, Police Commissioner William Connors and former Rye Mayor Steve Otis. Chittenden began to run for Rye City Council last year but eventually dropped out.

Theresa Juva over at LoHud has the story, which says in part:

“The Rye Police Association is charging that the former president and treasurer spent $179,000 from the association without authorization over six years and failed to repay it after confronted.

Police Officer Timothy Chittenden, who retired in December, withdrew $55,151.57 from ATMs or checks written to himself, wrote checks to lawyers totaling $57,459.56 and issued checks to purchase dollar drafts worth $11,475.03, a lawsuit filed last week in Westchester County Court alleges. He also wrote checks to a storage company for $4,750.64, the lawsuit claims. The rest of the total includes transactions still in question.

The police union’s current president, Franco Compagnone, claims in the lawsuit that he happened to open a bank statement in November that showed the association’s balance was significantly less than Chittenden had reported. Chittenden, the association’s president for 13 years before being appointed treasurer in 2007, was the sole keeper of the group’s checkbook and bank records…”

  4. THE HYPOCRITIC OATH OF OTIS

Yesterday my mother received a senior citizen targeted “Otis for Assembly” campaign flyer which is headlined with the following:

“Steve Otis is a strong advocate for senior citizens.”

“As Mayor of Rye, Steve Otis consistently fought to meet the needs of seniors.”

Clearly some dishonesty is worse than others – some cruelties more vicious than others – some flights from accountability more desperate than others – and in the persona of Steve Otis of Rye – we have an example of all of these and more.

What Steve Otis did to Rye senior citizen Bob Schubert and the Wetland Laws of Rye wasn’t a mistake, or an error, or an oversight, or a misunderstanding, or an accident. The hundreds of thousands of dollars Schubert was forced to spend out of his own pocket gathering evidence of this (through court ordered subpoenas and participant testimony under oath) has produced multiple appalling tangible examples of pure governmental malfeasance and criminality.

“Rye City to Schubert – in their own words.” (8 minutes.)

Some day very soon – after city residents learn all about how predatory municipal legal tactics work in the new Rye Golf Club scandal – we will bring Rye residents back to how a brilliant decorated World War II veteran was persecuted, smeared and ultimately sent to an early grave with the full support of Steve Otis.

“Rye Attorney Kevin Plunkett tirade at Rye citizen.” (1 minute, 30 sec.)

Mr. Otis certainly had a chance to make all this right – to let the documented truth – now marshaled in cardboard boxes on Milton Point (and in local newspaper editors email files) – to come out. Steve Otis did the opposite and continues to deny his culpability and responsibility to this day. Unlike Bob Schubert, some of us, growing in number, are still among the living and are thus even more determined to set this record straight and expose the craven special interests Mr. Otis pandered to that made the fiasco possible. If this makes the guilty among us mad, or nervous, so be it.

Senior’s aren’t stupid. Steve Otis has an awful painfully public record of abusing seniors who turn to him in their hour of need for the help they deserve.

  5. Chrissy,
An Ad Hominem is a general category of fallacies in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the author of or the person presenting the claim or argument. Typically, this fallacy involves two steps. First, an attack against the character of person making the claim, her circumstances, or her actions is made (or the character, circumstances, or actions of the person reporting the claim). Second, this attack is taken to be evidence against the claim or argument the person in question is making (or presenting).
The reason why an Ad Hominem (of any kind) is a fallacy is that the character, circumstances, or actions of a person do not have a bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim being made (or the quality of the argument being made).
