The Garnet and Black will attempt to advance its recent successes over the hated HARRISON HUSKIES in Westchester’s most storied high school football rivalry when the 84th renewal pops up early in the ’14 campaign. From the 1930s through 1999 “THE GAME”, without exception, was traditionally the season’s “GRAND FINALE”. In the fourteen succeeding years, on six occasions including ’14, Rye/Harrison has been sprinkled around the schedule as the first game, the fourth or the fifth thanks to the genius of the Section One Football Committee. Once again this year the kickoff has been advanced to 11AM due to security and crowd control considerations. Hey boys, it’s time to strap on the old leather helmets of yesteryear, cinch up the chin strap and suck it up – you are representing generations of your communities in this one. My father played in 1941 and my sons in 1994 and 1997 – continue the tradition Rye Garnets! “THE GAME” is for all the marbles, all the bragging rights. It is the BIG ONE as Rye continues to seek to control of the aughts and teens having won eleven of fifteen (.733) regular season and playoff games from the Maroon and White since 1999. The series currently stands at 38-42-3 (.475). It will be a different Harrison sideline without 28-year Head Husky Artie Troilo. Jr., his intensity and his love of the Rye/Harrison rivalry game. Thanks for all the memories Artie and god speed, but the Garnets aren’t completely rid of you yet! We will see you soon again on October 17. Those wanting prime seats, arrive early at Rye’s Nugent Stadium, long-before kickoff of Westchester’s finest high school football game. Garnets inch even closer to series parity!
