Rye & Ethnic Food… Really?

LoHud.com recently ran a piece highlighting the diversification of cuisine along Rye's Purchase Street. Calling Rye's restaurant offerings "more ethnic" we think is a stretch, but we should all welcome the bit of diversification we are getting.

We are big fans of Little Thai Kitchen, and so glad we don't need to trek to Connecticut to enjoy it anymore. And they deliver… for those of you tired of the tyranny of pizza and Chinese. We hear great things about Rosemary and Vine. WUJI is on the list but is an unknown to us right now.

Perhaps these places are early signs that maybe Rye can have at least a bit more of the culinary diversity found in Port Chester, and increasingly in Mamaroneck and Harrison.

Here is LoHud.com on the topic:

"Rye restaurants: More ethnic, modern eateries
Gabriel Rom

Rye's downtown cuisine, no longer just a hub for oysters, steak and red sauce Italian fare, is growing and diversifying.

A bevy of modern and ethnic restaurants has been arriving along Purchase Street, and more are slated to open soon.

"There are restaurants in Rye that have been there for so long, so we wanted to bring a little funk and a younger vibe to the town, a place that could cater to families and play host for serious foodies," said Mogan Anthony, who is head chef of Village Social in Mount Kisco and will be expanding to Rye with a soon-to-open modern American restaurant located at the former Encore Bistro at 67 Purchase St….

Tania Rahal and Berj Yeretzian are a husband-and-wife duo that run Rosemary and Vine, a restaurant that opened last September at 29 Purchase St.

The airy dining room with tin ceilings, reclaimed wood for tables and chalkboard menus is somewhat unique for Rye; the fare is vegetarian Mediterranean with a Lebanese influence. Family recipe Baba ghanoush and Turkish braised eggplant ragout are standouts…

WUJI, a higher-end Chinese restaurant at 26 Purchase St., opened earlier this year and is co-owned by Jody Pennette, a restaurateur who has helped open eateries in Purchase and Greenwich, Connecticut.

Little Thai Kitchen, at 2 Purchase St., is another new food tenant. LTK offers regional specialties like Yum Nam Sod, a ground chicken salad with roasted peanuts, fried chilies and a lime dressing."
