It is well known that the SLEEPY HOLLOW HEADLESS HORSEMEN lust for the Garnets to be their rival. Rye will have none it. The eerie squad from Ichabod Crane’s and Rip Van Winkle’s Hudson Valley ‘hood trot into Nugent for what has become a traditional horserace of former SWIAC foes.
These tilts are always scary, never sleepy but SHHS has snoozed, like Rip, for over twenty years while the Garnets galloped to a 27-12-1 (.675) nightmarish record. Shhh – don’t wake the slumbering Zeemen. The sinister “Hollow Hit” chant coupled with the horseshoe helmets give the Red and White an aura and mystique unmatched in Section One and beyond Washington Irving’s legendary stories.
With their last stomping of Rye coming in ‘12 and being the sole win in two decades, these stampeding spirits are charged to behead Rye. HAUNT THE HEADLESS HORSEMEN ! ! ! !
