BLM Speech Catherine Parker

About 1,000 of your neighbors participated in a Black Lives Matter protest and march on Saturday, June 13th.

The peaceful group gathered at Rye High School at 2pm and then marched to the village green for speeches from local officials and activists. The group then resumed its march, winding around Rye before ending back at the high school.

Here is the speech of Rye resident and Westchester County Legislator Catherine Parker.

“One of the ugliest meetings…,” Parker told the crowd, “when I was on the Rye City Council was in 2011, not that many years ago, when we were looking on the other side of this building at selling the building and changing the zoning to build housing as well as multi-use and the [Rye city council] chambers were filled with people that said ‘not in my town’. They didn’t use the word black, they didn’t use anything about race. It was all about money. And we need to look at that. We need to face that head on and have a real soul searching”

We’ll be posting more photos and videos of the march and various speeches here on MyRye.com through Monday, please check back.
