“Look for it and act fast,” warned Rye Guy and County Boss George Latimer, when talking about the tickets that will go on sale this Wednesday for the first of two drive-in movies that will be aired in the Rye Playland parking lot.
He is not kidding. When the county made tickets available for drive-in movies at Kensico Dam park, they were sold out in 15 minutes.
In the next few weeks, the Playland parking lot will be transformed into a drive-in theater, presenting Aladdin (PG, 2019) on Friday, July 31 and Dolittle (PG, 2020) on Friday, August 7, allowing movie-goers to enjoy classic live-action, family-friendly films in a socially-distanced way. The movies are part of Westchester County Parks’ Screenings under the Stars series.
“These are family and children oriented movies so you can get out of the house on Friday night and enjoy Playland. We are aiming to make lemonade out of the lemon that is Playland Park being closed in the age of COVID,” said Latimer, whose home is so close to Playland he can practically watch these movies from his front porch.
Aladdin tells the story of a kind-hearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true. Dolittle follows a physician who can talk to animals and embarks on an adventure to find a legendary island with a young apprentice and a crew of strange pets.
