Stolen Car Chase, Two Suspects Arrested on Pine Lane

Just after midnight Friday morning, Rye Police Officers initiated a vehicle pursuit after a license plate reader identified the plate on the vehicle as stolen out of Harrison. The pursuit began on Stuyvesant Avenue and was picked up by other Rye units.

The pursuit continued through the south end of town. Under the direction of Lieutenant Mike Anfuso, officers took up pre-positioned locations. The chase ended when the suspects drove down the dead-end road of Pine Lane (off Milton Road) where the suspect vehicle went into a resident’s driveway, reversed and rammed a Rye Police marked unit.

Both the driver and three passengers of the vehicle fled the scene on foot. Rye PD arrested two of the occupants after a brief foot chase. The two additional occupants have not yet been located. It was uncovered the license plate was taken from Harrison and the vehicle, a 2018 Audi A5, was stolen from Newark, New Jersey.

Nineteen year-old Jason Cathcart of Kearny, NJ and 23 year-old Shawn Neal of Newark, NJ were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree, a class E felony and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree, a class B Misdemeanor. The suspects were out shopping according the police department – for other vehicles and vehicle contents to steal. Rye PD urges you to keep your cars locked at all times and to not leave valuables in plain sight.

Rye PD reminds you booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
