In Memory: Judith Ford Loutit, Age 84

Obituary - Judith Ford LoutitJudith Ford Loutit of Wilmington, North Carolina and Mount Desert, Maine, died peacefully at Duke University Medical Center on October 26th, 2022.

Judy was born in 1938 and grew up in Marion, Massachusetts. She graduated from Tabor Academy and completed both a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Smith College. She spent her Junior year in Madrid, Spain with a group of fellow students who became life-long friends.

Judy met her husband, Bob, in New York City while she was teaching Spanish at Rye High School in Rye, New York. Judy and Bob lived in Garden City, Long Island, New York, St. Louis, Missouri, Cohasset, Massachusetts and Wilmington, North Carolina. She and her family spent summers in Mount Desert, Maine. She taught Spanish at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington and served on the Board of Trustees of Cape Fear Academy.

When her husband, Bob, retired, they moved to Bermuda where Bob had lived during his formative years. She joined the Garden Club of Bermuda and became a life-long member of the Bermuda Rose Society. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of New York City. Judy and Bob enjoyed tennis and boating in Bermuda with a mutual love of the sea.

She is survived by her husband James Robson Loutit (Bob) of Wilmington, North Carolina, her son, James Frederick Robson Loutit of Austin, Texas, Douglas McLeod Loutit (m. Jada Carlson Loutit) of Essex, Connecticut, and Christopher Cameron Loutit (m. Lauren Balbach Loutit) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and one beloved grandchild Amelia Swift Loutit of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Visitation will be held at the Cape Fear Club on Tuesday, November 1st from 4-6 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd, at 10:00 am at St. James Episcopal Church, Wilmington, NC. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Cameron Art Museum at 3201 South 17th Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, 28401.
