Charles E. Todenhagen was born in Germany on May 6, 1919 to his father, Charles Todenhagen, and his mother, Erna Todenhagen. In 1924, the family moved to Rye, NY. Growing up in Rye, Charles went to Rye High School, and was a part of the Class of 1938. There, he played football and took part in the school Stagecraft Club. His family lived at 19 Goldwyn Street.

Charles enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S Navy in WWII. 

On May 26, 1940, Charles married Arlene Shepard. Together they started their family, having two children. After the war, Arlene and Charles moved to Poestenkill in Rensselaer County, New York, where he was employed as an attendant at a service station.

Arlene worked as a teacher’s aide at Poestenkill Elementary School for 16 years. Following her retirement, the couple moved to the Glens Falls/Lake George area to be closer to family.

Charles E. Todenhagen, of South Glens Falls, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 1999, at Glens Falls Hospital. Charles was survived by his wife, Arlene Todenhagen of South Glens Falls; one son, Peter Todenhagen of Clarence; one daughter, Sandra Austin of Pilot Knob; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
