Pleather Seats, Clean Toilets Coming to Metro North in 2009
(PHOTO: No Smell, Coming in 2009) Everyone knows it. The train cars on the Metro North railroad stink. Especially if you wind up sitting in a bathroom car. And while the Hudson and Harlem lines have beautiful new cars (and nice new bathrooms that presumably do not stink), because our friends in Fairfield County did not pony up, we have cars that are, well, old and smelly.
Rye resident Richard Jessop told Bloomberg:
“The seats themselves look almost like an old mattress,” said Richard Jessop, 48, of Rye, New York, director of global markets financing and services for Merrill Lynch & Co. in Manhattan. “The back and the springs are shot, so if you’re sitting, it’s literally like sitting on a football bench. They’re pretty grubby.”
The new M-8 train cars will also feature red Naugahyde, or pleather seats, power outlets for your laptop and larger windows. See MyRye.com’s photo album of the mock M-8 train car due in 2009.
