Rye Burglaries – Assailant Enters Home – More on the Manhunt
Last Thursday we had a Westchester police helicopter and the Harrison police K-9 unit helping the Rye police during an unsuccessful manhunt.
On Monday, Ray Quartararo of the Greenhaven Rye Association sent the email missive below, warning: "Last night, a home was entered on Orchard Street while the family was home… They chased the suspect who was able to escape before police arrived… (the) police have asked… us… to report ANY suspicious vehicles, persons or activity. They also suggested that we use our alarm systems and door locks when possible. People who are out in the evening are urged to carry cell phones to report any suspicious activity."
As of Monday evening, the Rye PD has not responded to MyRye.com’s request for further information.

Dear Neighbors:
I am sure some of you have heard about the recent string of burglaries in the community. On Sunday evening, a Rye Police Officer came by our home to share some of the details and ask for help from the neighborhood.
Many of us heard the commotion last Thursday evening when a large-scale search was conducted along Post Road between Barlow and Greenhaven Roads. The Rye and Harrison Police used a helicopter, search dogs and a foot patrol to chase a suspect. A ski mask was found in The Preserve, and the dogs tracked the suspect to Toyota City where he apparently had a vehicle waiting to flee.
There have been as many as forty burglaries tied to this suspect in the area of Bradford Place and The Preserve, as well as near the Rye Beach Pharmacy. Until last evening, all of these were burglaries of empty houses, most during the day and early evening. Last night, a home was entered on Orchard Street while the family was home. They chased the suspect who was able to escape before police arrived.
The suspect has been breaking in primarily through rear doors and windows, sometimes after breaking porch lights. The only description is of a white male, medium height and weight with short, dark brown hair.
We are working with the Rye Police Department to utilize the reverse-911 system to disseminate information. In the meantime, the police have asked all of us to be particularly vigilant, and to report ANY suspicious vehicles, persons or activity. They also suggested that we use our alarm systems and door locks when possible. People who are out in the evening are urged to carry cell phones to report any suspicious activity.
Feel free to call me, [redacted], if you have any questions, but more importantly, please remain alert and call the Rye police immediately, 967-1234, if you see something suspicious.
Enjoy the last vestiges of summer!
Ray Quartararo
