Feeling Itchy? Head Lice Enroll Themselves in Rye Schools

You might need to fumigate your child’s friend before he or she comes over for that play date. If you are feeling itchy, you are not alone. Cases of head lice are running through Midland, Milton and Osborn Schools. On September 11th and 12th, emails went to school parents to "remain calm":

"Head lice affect more people than any other childhood communicable disease, including the common cold…  Infestations have become the “norm” rather than the exception in elementary schools…  Lice are not life threatening…  Lice infestations can be conquered, but it takes concerted and consistent efforts on the part of families, schools, and community… children with lice or nits are temporarily dismissed from school until treated and all lice, nits (eggs), and nit’s casts have been removed."
