A Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force from 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina "dropped in" on Rye this past Sunday. As part of Armed Forces Appreciation Day, Marines staged a "raid" on Playland landing two attack helicopters and two CH-46E Sea Knight helicopters.

The Marines were in New York as part of Fleet Week and flew up to Rye from Manhattan, where they were stationed on the USS Iwo Jima, a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship.

The Coast Guard and the Rye Fire Department also participated in the celebration. The four Marine helicopters were available for public display and visiting US Marines chatted with Playland fun seekers from about 1:30pm to 4:30pm Sunday.

  1. It’s interesting there are no comments about our brave men and women on this thread. Typical Crye.

  2. This was a fantastic experience. My kids really enjoyed it. Seeing the marines that have served in Iraq makes the situation more real than reading abuotit in the newspaper. My hats off to these brave men and women.

  3. I agree. My seven year old son was awed by the experience. God bless our troops for protecting us.
