I have a question to all council members and Council/Mayoral candidates. In the past 8 years or so Rye PD has failed to hire any Rye residents, with the police commissioner opting to hire outside residents and transfers. Although it is not a bad thing to mix outsiders with residents. But with other towns hiring preference being residents, our own Rye residents are left in the dark. Will the council look to change this policy the police commissioner has in place? In addition there are positions open at the PD and the city refuses to fill them saying that the economy is to blame. But we see Otis made a deal with the state to lease a field for $30k a year for 15 years. That doesn’t include the few million it will cost to build the field and parking lot and whatever else. So I ask what is the priority of the council? And what if anything can the candidates plan on doing? Otis and the current council seem to think residents don’t pay attention to what is going on. Spend money on public safety or a field that is not a pressing issue at this time? We have plenty of fields. Just like the FD needs additional manpower do to the fact volunteering has dropped off steadily not only in Rye but across the state and country. If a career FF gets hurt at a incident it could be a potential major lawsuit on the city due to the fact manpower is a major concern. Some incidents only get 2 career fire fighters. But hey building a field is so much more important.

I am so happy to see I am not alone! I was beginning to think it was me! I disagreed with this from the very start for all the obvious reasons. Mayor Otis doesn’t think we have a public safety issue. He thinks it’s a dream and he’s waiting for someone to pinch him.
All he wants to do is fill his own plate and stand on a pedestal…problem is he is doing it at our expense and our children and we need to unite and vote him the hell out of here!!! I don’t know about the rest of you but I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!! We need someone in office who will stand up for us, take charge with a ZERO TOLERANCE type of approach, work with us & for us, most of all PROTECT OUR KIDS!!!
It’s about time he see’s what it’s like from the other side of the fence!!!

I presented a very good logic question a few days ago and it amazes me that no one has answered me. Now that either tells me there are only about 8 people blogging on this site or the council and everyone else is avoiding my question.

And BTW your pretty accurate in your assumptions to why your questions are not answered. If you ask them at a City Council Meeting you would pretty much get the same response!!! SAD, ISN’T IT???
