Eight Years Later, a 9/11 Memorial in Rye is Within Reach
Eight years after 9/11, Rye is finally on the verge of having its own memorial.
The memorial gazebo is designed, all approvals are in place and according to the city, construction will start soon and should take about two months. Estimated completion is some time later this fall.
Rye Mayor Steve Otis told MyRye.com "The September 11th Memorial will be a fitting honor to the exceptional individuals who were lost to us so tragically. The Gazebo that once graced the Village Green will bring back a part of our history and will be a significant remembrance of lasting meaning."
After a number of site changes, the city council approved the current plan at their June 1st meeting.
