LoHud.com / Journal News Endorses Otis for Rye Mayor; Ball, Keith and Filippi for Rye City Council
LoHud.com and the Journal News published their editorial page endorsements this week for the Rye City races. The paper cherry picked from each of the two slates, choosing Otis for Rye mayor and Ball, Keith and Filippi for Rye city council.
The paper said in part:
"Rye city residents are concerned about maintaining a balance between escalating taxes and still providing the kinds of services and amenities that the residents want and expect. For his ability to strike this balance, we endorse Steven Otis, running on the Democratic, Independence, Working Families and Rye Bipartisan Team line, for another term as mayor. He is challenged by Douglas French on the Republican and Conservative lines.
Vying for three seats on the council are Suzanna Keith, Peter Jovanovich, incumbent Andrew Ball, Myles Lavelle, Joseph Murphy and Richard Filippi. We recommend voters return Ball, running on the Democratic, Independence, Working Families and Rye Bipartisan Team lines, for his community involvement and prior work on the council. We also endorse Keith and Filippi, on the Republican and Conservative lines, to bring fresh, practical and informed perspectives to the board, especially on fiscal matters."
