Buy a Toy for Carver Kids – 500 Toys Needed – Three Drops in Rye

Carver Center logo The Carver Center of Port Chester needs your help. The corporate sponsors who usually fund its holiday toy drive have pulled back and they are now appealing to Rye and other surrounding communities to make it happen—500 new toys—for the kids and families that depend on Carver. Rye resident and Osborn parent Kim O’Connor is the Clinical Director of Programs at Carver and she told us how MyRye.com readers can help.

Don’t know The Carver Center? This non-profit serves the Port Chester community, where 72% of the families in the school district are Latino—more than anywhere else in Westchester and 45% of African American families and 27% of Hispanic families survive on less than $25,000 a year.

Friends of Carver from Rye have organized the Rye Porch Elves—friendly Rye families whose porches have become toy drop-off locations now through December 19th. These friendly Elves are looking for 500 new toys (or gift certificates for families to buy toys) for the Port Chester Carver Center children (age birth to 16).

Location of Elves’ Porches:

  • 22 Centre Street (Sarah Gray)
  • 15 Sonn Drive (Kim O’Connor)
  • 2 Robert Crisfield Place (side porch, Cliona Cronin)

Gifts can also be dropped off directly at Carver Center, 400 Westchester Avenue, Port Chester. Questions? Call Kim O’Connor at 939-4464 x165.

Thanks for your help MyRye.com readers! We’ll check back in with Carver and report on the toy drive progress shortly.
