BU Student from Rye Found Dead From Unknown Causes, Elderly Highland Hall Resident in Apparent Suicide

Tragedy has hit Rye City.

BU Today, the news web site of Boston University, is reporting BU student and Rye resident Michael DeVito was found dead this morning at his fraternity house. An investigation will be run by Boston PD. The report says:

Michael DeVito, a 19-year-old sophomore in the College of Arts & Sciences, from Rye, N.Y., was found dead early this morning. According to a Boston Police spokesperson, police responded to an “unconscious person” call at 50 Gardner St. at 8:30 a.m. Police say that when they arrived at the house, which is occupied by members of the Sigma Chi fraternity, emergency medical technicians were applying CPR. DeVito was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Boston University Police Chief Thomas Robbins says there is no evidence of foul play. As in the case of all unattended deaths, the death is being investigated by the Boston Police.

This comes two days after Rye resident Eric Bauer, 70, was found dead in his Highland Hall apartment with a gun shot wound to the head. Chris Falcone at the Sound Shore review has a write-up.
