Brooklyn Dodger and Rye Resident Branca Entertains at Library
Rye resident and former Brooklyn Dodger pitcher Ralph Branca told stories of pitching for the Dodgers in the 40s and 50s,the "shot heard 'round the world" and playing with Jackie Robinson to a full house at the Rye Free Reading Room on Thursday night. For the 100 or so Rye residents that came out to hear Branca, it was a chance to hear baseball history first hand.
The audience was multi-generational with kids and adults alike clutching baseballs and memorabilia that Branca was kind enough to sign after his almost two hour talk.
Branca was interviewed by Joshua Prager, a former Wall Street Journal writer who penned The Echoing Green: The Untold Story of Bobby Thomson, Ralph Branca and the Shot Heard Round the World.
