If the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the unfolding environmental disaster off the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico, happened in Rye, its impact would cover across the Long Island Sound, up the Connecticut shore and impact a tri-sate area. Paul Rademecher, an engineer for the Google Earth brower plug-in, designed an application where you can compare the size of the ongoing Gulf spill to any geographic location.
