Make Your Own Musket Ball: Rye Town Park Saturday, June 26th
(PHOTO: These outfits are not available at Party City.)
You thought Saxon Woods mini golf and Longford's ice cream was fun.
How about musket ball Saturdays? Ah, to sit back with the kids and craft a musket ball.
On Saturday, June 26, 2010, the Rye Historical Society and The Rye 350 Committee are sponsoring a day of history with a colonial re-enactment at Rye Town Park from 10 am to 3 pm.
At 10 am there is a re-creation of the day 350 years ago when Peter Disbrow, John Coe and Tom Studwell rowed back from “Manussing” Island after purchasing it from Siwanoy Chief Shenorockwell. The colonial re-enactment features Sheldon’s Horse, The Second Continental Light Dragoons (guys into American history that dress in colonial garb).
Visitors can:
- Watch a metal smith craft musket balls (great for kids or for keeping overflow vehicles out of Rye Town Park!).
- Visit with the spymaster and learn about the secret codes used during the Revolutionary War and how to make invisible ink (those trivia books you used to take on car trips will not be available).
- Listen to colonial musicians playing songs from then Revolutionary War period (bring your requests…).
- Chat with colonial soldiers while they relax in the mess tent.
The 411 (in colonial times called the "smoke signal"):
Cost: free and
open to the public.
Rain or shine. Hopefully shine.

Avenue in Rye, NY.

the rate for residents without permits is $9. Wampum will not be accepted.
