Amico Gets His STOP Sign
UPDATE: Apparently there was an issue with the installation of the STOP signs. They have been temporarily removed and will be re-installed soon. Exact timing is unclear.
Jim Amico finally got his Midland Avenue STOP sign. Amico is a sometimes prolific writer of colorful email to public officials and other Rye observers. This was the email he sent Wednesday after discovering the new STOP signs on the way home:

"CLOSURE",
As I approached the Stop Sign on Palisade Rd. today I noticed a vehicle driving North slowing down and come to a stop right at the new CrossWalk. I was sitting there saying to myself "why is this guy coming to a complete stop in the middle of Midland Avenue". Low and Behold there is a new STOP SIGN, one on each side of the road!
I couldn't stop shaking and immediately began to cry. I AM SO HUMBLED!!! I called Maggie but she didn't answer her phone, I went to my neighbor and cried on her shoulder with JOY!!! I have been waiting for all the stimulus projects to be finished so I can take my stand to renew my fight for those "stop signs".
I can not begin to tell you how happy I am to not go down that road!!!
For the last 4 1/2 years I haven't been much of a Father or Husband, I have spent every ounce of energy on my fight for stop signs and my advocacy for pedestrian safety.
I owe this all to them for waiting for their dad and husband to return! One year ago Maggie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, during her battle I was not there for her like a loving husband should be, something I am not very proud of! Recently something happened between us that we are not proud of and it became an ugly public subject thanks to the JOURNAL NEWS. I'm here to tell everyone, I DID NOT AND DO NOT ASSAULT MY WIFE!!!
Thank You to everyone who stood by us during this very difficult time and did not believe the reports coming from the media!
I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MAYOR FRENCH AND THE ENTIRE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION FOR DOING WHAT THE PAST ADMINISTRATION AND FORMER MAYOR STEVE OTIS REFUSED TO DO…… PUT A STOP SIGN AT A VERY DANGEROUS INTERSECTION WHERE OUR SON JARRID WAS KILLED AND ANOTHER BOY NEARLY MEETING THE SAME FATE!
THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!"
