FOUR ARRESTS IN HOME INVASION ROBBERY IN CITY OF RYE

Four arrests have been made in a home invasion robbery in the City of Rye following a joint investigation by the City of Rye Police Department, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Major Case Squad, and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.

At approximately 11:45 P.M. on Friday, October 15, 2010, the four defendants, one female and three males, entered a residence at 856 Forest Avenue in the City of Rye, displayed a firearm, and forcibly stole cash, a television, the victim’s driver’s license, his watch, and other assorted jewelry.

All four were arrested on Thursday, October 21, 2010, in the Borough of Queens. Property removed from the victim, as well as a firearm, was recovered. Two were arraigned in Rye City Court on October 22, 2010; Fareena Mohhamed, black female, DOB 5/27/1982, and Jamal L. Brayboy, black male, DOB 10/13/1977, both of 16433 Cross Bay Boulevard, Howard Beach, New York, are being held on $100,000 cash bail or $250,000 secured bond each. The remaining two defendants are expected to be arraigned later today; they are identified as Simoeon R. Hall, black male, DOB 2/13/90, of 619 Hemlock Street, Brooklyn, New York, and Montay D. Walters, black male, DOB 8/10/87, of 675 Linwood Street, East Flatbush, New York.

“Early on in this case, we developed information indicating that this was not a random crime that posed a threat to the community as a whole,” said Police Commissioner William Connors.  “However, the potential for future harm to our victim, as well as the possibility that these people would target others in the future, made it critical that they be brought to justice quickly. We are confident that all four parties involved are now in jail.” 

These arrests are the result of outstanding investigative work by the City of Rye Police Department, the Major Case Squad of the Westchester County Department of Public Safety, and the District Attorney’s Office. “The detectives and attorneys from all three agencies brought extraordinary skills to the table, but an even more important factor in this investigation was exceptional interagency cooperation,” said Commissioner Connors. “The entire team has worked tirelessly since the early morning hours of Saturday to bring this case to a quick and successful conclusion, and the resources of the County Police and the District Attorney’s Office have been invaluable. On behalf of the City of Rye, I extend our thanks to both agencies for providing their vital services with only one goal in mind: the safety of our community.”
