Bird House Flies Onto National Register

It's going to be a bit harder to sack any efforts against the Bird Meeting House on Milton Road.

Also known as the Rye Meeting House or Milton Chapel, this crumbling piece of history was just placed on the National Register of Historical Places. That makes the Bird House eligible for certain grants and makes it pretty difficult (impossible?) to bulldoze it in favor of a McMansion.

The city was notified of the designation on January 14, 2011 via a letter from Ruth Pierpont, New York State director for historic preservation.
