Rye Transplants Deal with Flooding in Vermont
Hurricane Irene followed Rye transplants Don and Renee Gioffre to their new home in Jamaica, Vermont, where they were part of a community that united in its recovery:
"JAMAICA, Vt. — As cranes lifted a new steel bridge onto freshly-poured concrete foundations this week, a span that will reconnect Route 30 over the Ball Mountain Brook in the center of Jamaica village, a small crowd gathered to watch, marveling at the pace of recovery from Tropical Storm Irene.
"I'm so thankful to be living in a town that can do this," said Don Gioffre. He and his wife, Renee, transplants from Rye, NY, were snapping photographs of the construction activity nearby. "It shows what America was in the old days — maybe we can still do it in the future," he said.
The state Transportation Agency expects to reopen two of Jamaica's four bridges blown out by the storm within the next several days."

Mr.Sears,
Why are you writing about a guy who was from “Rye Brook” not Rye City instead of writing about what took place at our own Rye City Council Meeting last night???
It was a full agenda with a packed house & significant outcomes for our community!
It is nice to see how “quickly” Vermont got back on its feet in comparison to how things are done around here…..as Mayor French says….”SNAILS PACE”!
But, the reality is this site is suppose to be about Rye, not Rye Brook transplants, and considering the turn of events at last nights Council Meeting and you have chosen this article to be of more importance you should shut this site down!!!!
