A total of 14 Rye High School seniors have achieved recognition in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program, a competition presented by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Five students earned the Semifinalist status and nine were named Commended Students, based on their 2011 Preliminary State Assessment Test (PSAT) scores.

Elizabeth Emanuel, James Goldszer, Richard Hardis, Ross Mulerrin, and Miranda van Dijk are among 16,000 Semifinalists identified out of 1.5 million students across the nation who entered the National Merit Scholarship Program. This level of honor brings the possibility of being selected as Finalists later this year and receiving scholarship awards.

Commended Students Ryan Ackert, Amanda Ciardiello, Melissa Fulenwider, Emma Jennings, Catherine Livingston, Audrey Love, Holley Secon, Joseph Viger, and Michael Beveridge received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their academic promise. About 34,000 students throughout the nation have received this distinction.
