Rye High Appoints New Assistant Principal

The Rye City School District has appointed Mr. Robert Zegarelli as Rye High School Assistant Principal. This role was previously held by Julia Chung, who has taken a new post as Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel and Special Education.

Mr. Zegarelli comes to Rye from North Carolina, where he most recently served as Assistant Principal at South Point High School in Belmont. Prior to that, he was a Math Facilitator at Oakhurst Elementary School in Charlotte. Earlier in his educational career he taught at the elementary school level. Mr. Zegarelli’s extensive background includes experience in analyzing data to devise goals, creating safety plans and modifications, utilizing benchmark data to assist teachers with program planning, fostering business relationships, conducting teacher evaluations, managing student disciplinary matters, facilitating Professional Learning Communities, coordinating professional development for staff and assisting with testing schedule development.

One of Charlotte’s Top 30 Under 30 Future Leaders, Mr. Zegarelli has been a member of the North Carolina Association of School Administrators, the North Carolina Association of Educators, and the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals Association. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from East Carolina University and his Master’s Degree from the University of North Carolina.

“I am ecstatic to be coming home to Westchester and working for a phenomenal school district,” Mr. Zegarelli stated. “I will be looking forward to meeting and working closely with the Rye High School staff, students, and community. My goal is to continue the values and traditions of excellence and challenge the students to perform to their highest potential.”
