Metro North Riders Being Bused from Rye Playland

This week 40 buses will be in service running from Rye Playland to the White Plains Metro North station, scheduled to depart every 10 minutes during the rush hour, and every 30 minutes off peak.

The bus service is being offered in the wake of a massive electrical failure last week on Metro North that has caused a commuting nightmare. Just south of Rye, more limited diesel train service is running from the Harrison station.

There are 1,500 parking spaces at Playland.

Working closely with Metro-North officials, County Executive Robert P. Astorino has authorized the opening of the parking areas at Playland in Rye to give railroad commuters on the New Haven Line access to trains on the Harlem Line.

Commuters who park at Playland will be taken to the White Plains train station, about 10 miles away. Under a plan coordinated with Metro-North, parking areas will be open at 4:30 a.m. daily and shuttle buses will start running at 5 a.m.  Shuttle bus service will continue throughout the day. The focus will be on the morning and evening commute and the schedule will be assessed daily.
