Adam cox heard in ryeAdam Cox, Ph.D. and author of the books Boys of Few Words: Raising Our
Sons to Communicate and Connect and On Purpose Before Twenty
, will
address the challenges so many young people face in becoming effective
communicators and full participants in 21st Century Life.

Topics he will discus include:

  • What is the real purpose of childhood?
  • What kinds of opportunities make the biggest difference in growing up happy and strong?
  • What do young people expect from their parents?
  • What are the greatest fears children have about becoming adults?

Drawing on his extensive research, Dr. Cox will provide insight related to children's emotions, thoughts and ideals, sharing strategies for developing children's social skills and ways to initiate relevant conversations. He will also address how young adolescents can develop a sense of purpose and significance in their lives.

Adam J. Cox  PhD,  a leading advocate for fostering the cognitive abilities and emotional wellbeing of youth and author of  On Purpose before 20:  Selected Essays (Four Corners Press 2012), No Mind Left Behind: Understanding and Fostering Executive Control – The Eight Essential Brain Skills Every Child Needs to Thrive, will spend two days with parents, high school and middle school students in Rye Neck and middle school students in Rye.

Based on an unprecedented, two-year global study, Dr. Cox will discuss what young people identify as significant in their lives and where they discover a sense of purpose. His workshop will focus on the values that shape young minds and will engage students and parents in a discussion about how education can assert itself as a guiding light of a civil, purposeful society.
