The skull of the doomed 12-foot-long baby Minke whale that wandered into the notoriously filthy Gowanus Canal and tragically died there in 2007 will be on display at Gowanus’s first-ever TEDx conference on Jan. 26…

Sludgie’s skull will be the centerpiece of an interactive art exhibit produced by local arts group Proteus Gowanus. Sludgie's skull has been stored in a whale anatomist's lab in Rye, N.Y.

Conference organizers were able to obtain the female marine mammal’s skull from whale anatomist Joy Reidenberg, who was called in at the time to dissect the dead wayward whale and perform a necropsy.

New York's finest and bravest desperately tried to save the wayward baby Minke whale before it met its tragic end in the Gowanus Canal.

A short video featuring Reidenberg detailing her scientific findings and the causes of the wayward whale’s death will be screened at the conference held at the neighborhood’s famed Green Building."
