Rye Swimmers Making Strides

During the first weekend in March, Rye High School Junior Patrick MacAulay and Sophomore Liam Egan represented the Section 1 Boys Swim Team at the 2014 New York State Championships, held in Rochester.
Patrick was seated with a time of 4:52.50 for the 500 free. He swam a time of 4:53.72, finishing 44th overall. The top 3 heats, 24 swimmers, returned to swim on Saturday in the finals. The overall finish includes Catholic schools and NY city public schools. Patrick finished 34th out of the Public Schools in this event.
Liam was seated in the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.28. He swam a 1:56.02 and qualified for finals. Liam swam a time of 1:55.81 on Saturday in the finals which left him in 15th place overall at the meet. This was also a personal best for him in the event.
Liam also swam the 100 freestyle and was seated in this event with a time of 48.07. He swam a time of 46.92 in trials and was able to return back for finals. Liam swam a time of 46.32 in finals, ranking 9th place overall and placing 3rd out of the public schools. This time was also Liam's personal best.
Patrick MacAulay congratulated his teammate, stating, “Liam Egan is a very talented swimmer. He is one of the most hard working people I know and it is a privilege to know him. He's brings a true energy to the team and knows how to motivate his teammates.”
