RMS Students Honored for French Exam Results

Rye Middle School eighth-graders achieved outstanding results on the National French Exam (Le Grand Concours) that was administered to over 93,000 students across the country. Rye placed within the nation’s top ten on the level 1 exam and also earned excellent scores on the level 3 exam!

Seven students who took the level 1 exam were recognized during a prize ceremony held earlier in May. Congratulations to the following French scholars:

  • Alexander Mayo-Smith ranked #4 in Westchester, ranked #5 in the nation
  • Isobel Spence ranked #4 in Westchester, ranked #5 in the nation
  • Marina Gasso-Soler ranked #5 in Westchester, ranked #7 in the nation
  • Adele Harshbarger ranked #8 in Westchester, ranked #10 in the nation
  • Carola Pujol ranked #4 in Westchester, ranked #10 in the nation
  • Hannah Friedrich ranked #9 in Westchester, ranked #11 in the nation
  • Pablo Mazuera ranked #9 in Westchester, ranked #11 in the nation

Four Rye Middle School students received medals and prizes in the Le Grand Concours level 3 prize ceremonies held on May 28. Congratulations to the students listed below:

  • Jonathan Lloyd ranked 2 in Westchester, 3rd in the nation
  • Julian Alegre ranked 6 in Westchester, 7th in the nation
  • Jack Beney ranked 8 in Westchester, 9 in the nation
  • Daniel Alegre ranked 10th in Westchester, 11th in the nation

Rye Middle School foreign language teacher Sophie Kent, who has served as the coordinator for Westchester County’s National French Exam for fifteen years, presented opening remarks at the most recent award ceremony. She noted that in Westchester, 993 students took Le Grand Concours. Congratulations to the students and their teachers on this impressive success!
