Rye Baseball Wins First Sectional in 30 Years
Rye Garnet baseball won its first sectional in 30 years:
"POMONA — Rye last won a Section 1 championship 30 years ago, back when its baseball program ruled and its best athletes went onto college and pro stardom.
On Saturday night at Provident Bank Park, the Garnets finally returned to the top, beating Lakeland 6-5 in a tense Class A championship game to win their first sectional title since 1984.
“Thirty years is too long,” sophomore George Kirby said. “It’s about time we get a section title.”
Rye, which won just six games last season, advanced to the state regional semifinal and will play Section 9 champ Wallkill on Friday at 4 p.m. at Cantine Field in Saugerties."
