Rye School Administrators and Teachers Earn Tenure
Two administrators and 11 teachers in Rye City School District have earned their tenure appointments.
A celebratory reception was held on June 10, prior to the Board of Education Meeting at which these tenures were approved. Many colleagues and family members of those being acknowledged were excited to come out and applaud these educators on achieving a well-earned milestone in their careers.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Alvarez provided opening remarks and expressed appreciation to the dedicated administrators and faculty of Rye’s schools. He announced the name of each tenure recipient and shared brief biographies outlining their educational backgrounds.
Patricia Taylor joined the District in 2001 as an Assistant Principal at the High School. Previously she worked at Bronxville High School. She was appointed to her current role of Rye High School Principal in 2011. Mrs. Taylor holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from SUNY Cortland and a Master of Science Degree from Long Island University. “We are proud to grant tenure to this valuable administrator who has made a positive impact at Rye High School for the past 13 years,” Dr. Alvarez stated.
Ellen McDonnell, an Assistant Principal at Rye Middle School and Rye High School since 2011, holds an Area Breadth Degree from Cornell University, a Master of Arts Degree from Cornell University, and a Master of Science Degree from the College of New Rochelle. She previously taught math in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District. “We are sad that Mrs. McDonnell will be leaving our District after this month, but we wish her well and are excited for her in her new role as a principal at one of our neighboring middle schools,” Dr. Alvarez expressed.
Kristina Anderson, a Rye Middle School Special Education teacher since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Marist College and a Master of Science Degree from Long Island University. She previously taught in the Harrison School District.
Simon Berk, a Rye Middle School Social Studies teacher since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Fairfield University and a Master of Arts Degree from Columbia University Teachers College. Prior to joining the Middle School staff he held a leave replacement position at Rye High School. Before that he taught in Massachusettes.
Harold Brosowsky, a Rye Middle School Math and Science teacher since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Hofstra University and a Master of Science Degree from Dowling College. He previously taught science courses at Westlake High School/Middle School.
Marisa Galvin, an ELL teacher at Osborn and Milton Schools since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Iona College and a Master of Professional Studies Degree from Manhattanville College. She previously taught at P.S. 196 in the Bronx.
Margaret Heinze, a Rye Middle School Art teacher since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Parsons School of Design and an Advanced Certificate Post Baccalaureate from Queens College.
Sheau-Yuann Huang*, a Mandarin Teacher at Rye High School and Rye Middle School since 2010, holds a Master of Arts Degree from Indiana University of Pennyslvania and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Empire State College. She has done an excellent job helping students learn a language that can be challenging to master.
*Mrs. Huang was granted tenure earlier in the school year but was publically recognized with her colleagues on June 10.
Lisa Irvine, a Rye Middle School Science teacher since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Science Degree from Pace University/Dyson College. She previously taught in the White Plains School District.
Leanne Janos, a Rye Middle School Special Education teacher since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Professional Studies Degree from Manhattanville College. She previously taught at Ardsley Middle School.
Mark McWilliams, a Latin teacher at Rye High School and Rye Middle School since 2012, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Providence College, and Master of Arts Degrees from the University of Connecticut and University of Illinois. He previously taught in the New Rochelle School District.
Thomas Snowden, a Rye Middle School and Rye High School Music teacher since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Lehman College and Master of Arts Degrees from St. Joseph’s Seminary and Manhattanville College. He previously taught at St. Gregory Barbarigo School.
Matthew Teitsch, a Rye High School Science teacher since 2010, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Binghamton University, a Master of Engineering Degree from Manhattanville College, and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University. He student taught at Fox Lane High School and White Plains High School.
Kerry Tolan, a Rye High School English teacher since 2011, holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Arts Degree from National Louis University. She previously taught at Bronxville High School.
