Rye Schools Music Chair Awarded a Golden Baton
Sweet music!
The Rye City School District congratulates Music Department Chair Dr. Shawn Amdur for receiving Westchester Philharmonic’s 2014 Golden Baton Award. This was the second year in which the award has been presented, and applause was shared as 2013 recipient Neil Aaron “passed the baton” to Dr. Amdur during a “Friends of the Phil” dinner held on May 16.
Nearly 100 Westchester Philharmonic supporters were in attendance as Dr. Amdur was honored. A keynote speech was delivered by WQXR General Manager and Vice President Graham Parker and cellist Joshua Roman provided musical entertainment.
Dr. Amdur has worked in Rye for 25 years. He received the Golden Baton Award for his dedicated support of the community orchestra education programs that collectively bring several hundred students to the concert hall each season. “I am hopeful that students recall this experience learning about the orchestra, and then attending the performances, as a special learning opportunity that will be fondly remembered as they attend concerts on their own throughout their lifetimes,” Dr. Amdur stated.
