Dr. Catherine Steiner-Adair is an internationally recognized clinical psychologist, school consultant, speaker and author. Dr. Steiner-Adair has consulted to over 350 independent and public schools, parents and students on a wide range of topics related to strengthening children’s social and emotional development, shaping school culture, and deepening parents’ connections to their children. Dr. Steiner-Adair also works with professional organizations and businesses re-visioning work-family-life integration in the age of technology.

Catherine Steiner-Adair’s passion for helping adults raise strong, savvy and resilient children extends to boys and girls from preschool through college. A highly sought after speaker, her warmth, humor and compassionate understanding of children and the adults who care about them is extremely compelling. Her ability to weave research and real life stories leaves everyone in the audience feeling intellectually and emotionally smarter and equipped with new strategies. Dr. Steiner-Adair works with school Heads, boards, faculty, students and parents and consultations can range from a one-day visit to longstanding relationships of years with a school.

As a resource to the media, Dr. Steiner- Adair has appeared on The Today Show, Good Morning America, NBC Morning Joe, The Huffington Post Live, WSJ Live, The Discovery Channel , CNN, PBS, and been quoted in numerous newspapers and magazines. In addition to consulting to schools, Dr. Steiner- Adair is often invited to present to health professionals at conferences, PTA’s, synagogues and clergy groups, non-profit organizations, corporate retreats and fund raising events.

Catherine Steiner-Adair’s current research focuses on: 1) helping schools develop programs to fortify children’s resistance to cultural trends values that promote unhealthy risk taking and anti-social behaviors 2) helping schools develop curricula and programs designed to increase children’s confidence and competence as emerging leaders and close the leadership gap for girls 3) nourishing healthy relationships in the age of technology, and 4) the impact of tech on work-family-life balance.

Catherine’s longstanding interest in the impact of cultural values on the educational and psychological development of children began in her early years as a Doctoral student at Harvard. Her award winning research on cultural values that lead to the emergence of eating disorders among the most academically capable and economically advantaged girls lead to the development of the highly acclaimed middle school program Full of Ourselves: A Wellness Program to Advance Girl Power, Health, and Leadership—the first successful school based primary prevention program of its kind. It is currently being translated into Hebrew for use throughout Israel, as well as serving as a curriculum for the New York Girls Project. Dr Steiner-Adair developed Bishvili: For Me, a Jewish guide to Full of Ourselves, and has worked extensively in the American Jewish community as well as in Israel, on behalf of girls and women.

Dr. Steiner-Adair has a private practice in Chestnut Hill MA, where she works with teenagers, adults, couples and families. She is a Clinical instructor in the Dept. of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Psychologist at McLean Hospital.

Dr. Steiner-Adair is married to Fred Adair, a leadership consultant, and they have a son and a daughter.
