VA Exec to Speak at Rye Vet Day Observance, 10:30am Tuesday
Margaret O’Shea Caplan was appointed Director of the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System (VAHVHCS) on December 2, 2013. In this capacity, Mrs. Caplan directs the operations, finances, and clinical programs of the VAHVHCS, which serves approximately 30,000 individual Veterans at both the Montrose and Castle Point campuses, and at the seven Community Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) within six counties of the Hudson Valley region. The Medical Center has 90 operating hospital medical beds, 43 Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program Beds, 23 PTSD Residential Treatment Program Beds, 60 Domiciliary Homeless Treatment Program Beds and 121 operating Community Living Center beds with a budget of more than $200 million.
Prior to her appointment, Mrs. Caplan served as the Director of the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center since December 2011 and as the Associate Director at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center for 16 years starting in June 1995. During her tenure at Philadelphia, she served as Interim Director at VA Medical Centers located in Erie, Lebanon, and Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Mrs. Caplan began her healthcare management career by entering the Associate Director/Healthcare Management Trainee Program in 1992 at the VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Prior to her acceptance into the Associate Director’s Program, she spent 10 years working in various positions in VA Headquarters including four years in the Office of Congressional Affairs.
