Common Core in Schools – Discussion May 7th
We have a common core discussion May 7th, 2015 with Rye School Sup Dr. Frank Alvarez, Port Chester Schoool Sup Dr. Peter D. Salins, and Dr. Edward Kliszus:
LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS TO HOST AN ISSUE FORUM ON THE COMMON CORE
"THE COMMON CORE – FROM INSPIRATION TO IMPLEMENTATION"
RYE HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY, THURSDAY, MAY 7TH, 7:30 PM
The Rye, Rye Brook & Port Chester League of Women Voters will be presenting a forum entitled "The Common Core – From Inspiration to Implementation." The forum will deal with issues that have arisen following the adoption of the Common Core standards several years ago, which represent some of the most pressing public education issues today.
Which of the complaints are valid and which are not? Is the Common Core due for a major course correction or just some tweaking around the edges? To discuss these and other issues, the League Chapter has assembled a distinguished panel, which includes Dr. Peter D. Salins, Dr. Frank Alvarez and Dr. Edward Kliszus.
The panelists, representing diverse viewpoints ranging from academia to day-to-day administrative responsibility for school districts, will focus on how the Common Core standards are being implemented in New York State. They will discuss the changes in classrooms and the impact of the Common Core on students, teachers and administrators and parents, specifically drawing on the experience of two of the school districts in our local LWV Chapter, which serve populations very different from each other. The event promises to offer a lively and informative dialogue.
The forum will be held on Thursday, May 7, at 7:30 P.M. at the Library of the Rye High School, 5 Parsons Street, Rye. Contact: Debbie Reisner, (914) 698-7166 [email protected]
