Rye Playland to be Invaded by US Marines Sunday

Not sure whey this was buried in the news sent out from the County, but US Marines are scheduled to invade Rye Playland Sunday afternoon at 2pm (see video from 2011). If you have not seen this before, well, it is just plain cool…

This is all part of the Memorial Day celebration that starts at 11:30am with the Westchester Police Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Corps on stage at Playland.

PLAYLAND TO HOST ANNUAL VETERANS APPRECIATION DAY MAY 24

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino will welcome more than 4,000 veterans, service members and their families to the county’s annual Veterans Appreciation Day at Playland on Sunday, May 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event includes a barbecue lunch hosted by the Westchester County Veterans Service Agency, co-sponsored by Pepe Auto Group and DeBartolo Landscaping of New Rochelle.

Astorino will deliver a memorial tribute at approximately 11:45 a.m. on the Music Tower Stage. The Westchester Police Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Corps will open Playland at 11:30 a.m. with a performance, leading officials and veterans to the Music Tower Stage.

Weather permitting, a Marine helicopter raid demonstration will be conducted at 2:00 p.m.
