Childhood has become a race to perfection, which harms children and everyone connected with them. Now there is a backlash as people everywhere try to give kids the time and space to explore the world on their own terms, take reasonable risks, play freely, to be children again.

In his talk, Carl will touch on themes ranging from technology and extracurricular activities to schooling, safety and consumerism. He will explore how to strike the right balance between doing too much and doing too little for children, and will show how slowing down can give them a childhood worthy of the name.
Carl Honoré is an award-winning writer, broadcaster and speaker. He is also a globetrotting ambassador for the Slow Movement. The Wall Street Journal hailed him as “an in-demand spokesman on slowness.” He has covered Europe and South America for the Economist, Observer, Miami Herald, Houston Chronicle, Time, National Post and other publications.
He is the author of three books: In Praise of Slowness, The Slow Fix; and Under Pressure, a book for parents that explores the good, the bad and the ugly of modern childrearing – and offers a blueprint for change.
