Rye Youth Council Head Leaving, Search On for New Leader

The first and only head of Rye Youth Council, Judy Secon, is leaving after a 14 year run.

Rye Youth Council Executive Director Announces Departure

Rye, NY (June 1, 2015) — The Rye Youth Council (RYC) announced today that its Executive Director, Judy Secon, will be leaving her position at the end of June.

Ms. Secon, who has held the position for 14 years, explained she was ready for a new challenge. “I really loved my time at the Rye Youth Council, but with my youngest child’s graduation from high school, this is a natural time for me to pursue other projects.”

Ms Secon was the first executive director hired by the Rye Youth Council. Former Board President Lauren Miscimarra praised her leadership, vision and dedication. “Judy helped the organization develop a wide variety of social-emotional programs and services that were responsive to the changing issues facing the students and families in Rye.”

“It was a privilege to serve the children and families of our community, and I will miss working with our extraordinary Youth Advocates and our dedicated volunteers,” said Ms. Secon. “It is so important for organizations such as the Rye Youth Council to focus on our kids’ emotional health, and I am proud to have been associated with the RYC for so many years.”

Current Board President Lisa Faries thanked Ms. Secon for her many years of service to the organization. “We are very grateful to Judy for her leadership and commitment to the Rye Youth Council. During her tenure, our programs and services have bolstered the social and emotional well-being of thousands of children and teens in our community. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

Lisa Sandler, former Rye Nature Center Board President and current RNC board member, will step in as Interim Director beginning today. The Board will soon begin the process of seeking a new Director for the Rye Youth Council.

The Rye Youth Council is a local independent nonprofit organization, built on the belief that children’s social and emotional well-being is essential to their academic and lifelong success.

The RYC employs three youth advocates who offer programs that foster positive behavior, encourage social-emotional growth, and challenge students to see the world beyond themselves. It also runs the Rye Youth Council Employment Service, offering employment opportunities to high school students in the community.

The RYC works closely with the schools, parents and community to create positive goals and to provide a safe, caring environment for all young people Rye.
