The OG: It’s Deja Vu All Over Again – Rye Harrison Part 2 Saturday 11am at Rye
An encore performance, we have a very special Rye football game preview by the OG:
By The Old Garnet
As Yogi Berra (RIP Yogi) stated a long time ago, it’s deja vu all over again, an instant replay from seemingly just hours ago and a fall rerun when new seasons are supposed to debut. Why this Old Garnet just experienced a double-take as the RYE GARNETS (6-0), and seeded # 1 in the Section One Class A Championship Tournament, and the HARRISON HUSKIES (3-3) the last and final 16th seed, are now rematched in the game immediately following the regular season’s final contest. The schedulers have doubled the 85th and the 86th renewals of Westchester’s Most Storied Football Rivalry into the same season. However unlike last weekend, “The Game” is a Garnet home game played at the higher seeded team’s field. The back-to-back, belly-to-belly pairing kicks-off this Saturday, October 17 at 11:00AM at Rye’s John Nugent Stadium.
Only in ’02 and ’03 have the Garnets and the Huskies ever played twice in one season, once in the regular season (final ’02 regular season game) (6th regular season game of ’03), and each time in the Class B Sectional Semi-final. In the first Doublemint of ’02 the Huskies triumphed twice. And in the ’03 twinning Rye’s Garnets swept the pair.
Continuing the pattern, Rye shuts the Huskies down in ’15 drawing the Garnets one game shy of perfect symmetry at 50/50 with the Huskies at 41-42-3. On the scoreboard we also look for consistency as the Old Garnet envisions a repeat of last week’s 28-14 final score favor Rye.
One wonders if the Section One Playoff Scheduling Gods had the vision, since the Rye/Harrison rivalry has so much section-wide emphasis and such an arduous local following. Why not continue the ’03 pattern and make it “twice as nice” in ‘15?
