Rye Declares Snow Emergency
A snow emergency has been declared in the City of Rye:
"Due to the increase in snowfall predictions upwards of 10” to 15” or more, the north wind shift of the winter storm, high winds, potential flooding and blizzard conditions by storm Jonas as predicted by the weather services for lower Westchester, including the City of Rye, the City of Rye is hereby declaring a snow emergency, pursuant to New York state executive law.
Effective 9:30AM, Saturday, January 23, 2016, a snow emergency is in effect.
All residents with driveways are requested to park your cars in the driveways and off of City streets, to allow City snow removal crews to properly plow and clear snow from all City streets. It is prohibited and against the law to shovel, snow blow, and plow snow into City streets as it creates health, safety and welfare hazards to pedestrians and drivers, and hinders snow removal and clearing operations.
The City recommends everyone who does not need to be out on the road or traveling to stay home so that snow removal crews and emergency operations personnel can operate without needing to respond or rescue persons who may become stranded on the roads due to extreme snow or potential flooding conditions.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation, and stay safe.
